Day 20

Day 20 — High feeding-visit rate; possible unhatched egg(s) visible at dusk

Day 20 — High feeding-visit rate; possible unhatched egg(s) visible at dusk

Overnight through approximately 05:45, the female brooded without significant gaps. Chick shapes — pale, rounded forms — were visible in infrared alongside her through most of the night.

Starting around 05:46, the female began leaving the cup for stretches long enough to expose the chicks on camera. By 06:02 a relief clip shows her departing with four chicks clearly visible in the uncovered cup. At 06:06, multiple chicks are visible with open gapes. The male made the first confirmed feeding visit at 06:26–06:27, with four chicks present and at least one gaping; a second male visit followed at 06:53 with three chicks gaping.

Male feeding visits continued at irregular intervals from roughly 07:17 through 19:24 — approximately every 20–60 minutes, with documented visits around 08:06, 08:37, 09:13, 09:49, 10:35, 11:43, 12:20, 13:08, 13:44, 14:40, 15:20, 16:29, 17:27, 18:38, and 19:23. The female brooded or perched near the nest between visits and was also observed feeding on several occasions. Chick counts during adult visits consistently reached 3–4 individuals. Adult-absent stretches mid-day ran to roughly 10–20 minutes, consistent with chicks at approximately 7 days post-hatch.

Between 20:36 and 20:41, four clips show pale oval objects consistent with unhatched eggs visible in the cup alongside chicks. Given a confirmed clutch of 5 and daytime chick counts generally reaching 4, at least one egg appears to remain unhatched.

The female returned to sustained brooding shortly after 21:00 and remained in the cup through end of day.
